In a powerful demonstration of global health solidarity, India has dispatched its second tranche of emergency medical assistance to support African nations battling a fresh Ebola outbreak.

The 43-tonne consignment, which includes personal protective equipment, advanced diagnostic tools, monitoring devices, essential medicines and nutritional supplements, was sent to the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC).

Swift Response to Emerging Crisis

The latest shipment follows the first tranche dispatched on May 29. The supplies have been routed through Africa CDC’s Eastern Regional Coordinating Centre in Uganda before being moved to the affected eastern regions of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), where the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola has been reported.

Africa CDC expressed deep gratitude for India’s timely support, stating that the assistance will significantly bolster ongoing containment operations and help protect vulnerable communities.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar highlighted India’s commitment to standing with Africa during challenging times. This latest move reinforces India’s position as a reliable first responder in international public health emergencies.
